Yzerman: Procedure will sideline Red Wings top pick Lucas Raymond 8 weeks

Winging It In Motown

Red Wings fans have been somewhat in the dark following the news that blue-chip prospect Lucas Raymond went down with an injury last week. General manager Steve Yzerman gave an update on his status Monday afternoon — adding that Raymond will go under the knife and miss about 8 weeks:

According to Raymond’s SHL club, Frolunda, the procedure is to remove bone fragments from an elbow fracture. There are a couple of silver linings: it’s not a long-term concern, and Frolunda is calling up 2020 2nd rounder Theodor Niederbach to fill the roster spot.

This is a big bummer for not only Raymond, but fans as well. The 18-year-old was already having a career-year in the SHL after an impressive campaign at the World Juniors. It’s frustrating that he will potentially miss out on meaningful hockey, but again, it shouldn’t be a long-term concern for Raymond and the Red Wings.
