The last time the Red Wings matched up with the Predators, it ended one of the most embarrassing losses of the season, as Nashville cruised to a 7-1 victory. Can Detroit redeem itself in their home series against the Preds?
Red Wings 3-3 since they last saw the Preds
Since being blown out by the Predators, the Red Wings have actually had a decent stretch of hockey. They swept Columbus at home, notched an impressive 5-1 win at Tampa Bay, and lost twice by just one goal. In this stretch, we’ve seen Detroit play all sorts of styles of hockey – the impressive game control against Columbus, some defensive duels in both games against the Panthers (and one against the Lighting), and an offensive explosion in Tampa. It’ll be interesting to see what style of play we see against Nashville – a defensive showdown or some high risk hockey?
Red Wings Injuries
Detroit is hoping to have some key players back for their home series. Jonathan Bernier, Bobby Ryan, and Sam Gagner have all been out of the lineup for some time, but are still considered day-to-day. If Bernier remains out, Thomas Greiss will likely be the starter after the performances he’s had of late, although Calvin Pickard is an option if they are looking to give Greiss a rest. Ryan and Gagner have been replaced by Givani Smith and Frans Nielsen, with Valtteri Filppula slotting into any remaining empty spots in the roster.
There is still no word on the return of Tyler Bertuzzi.
Red Wings Players to Watch
- Filip Zadina. He’s developed his two way game nicely this season – now let’s see some goals.
- Michael Rasmussen. He’s starting to look very comfortable as an NHL regular. Remember, he’s just 21 years old. Ras has plenty of time to develop, and we’ve already seen some growth this season.
- Givani Smith. If Ryan and Gagner are both still out, Smith will continue to stay on the lineup. Let’s hope the young guy finds the net – and wins a few more fights.
