Red Wings ‘Trying to Build Something Here’

A restricted free agent this offseason, how loud will Red Wings fans shout to keep Vrana-mania around for an extended stay? He said via Red Wings TV he would be open to signing a long-term deal.

“I came here trying to fit in as soon as possible,” Vrana said. “So far there’s been ups and downs. We are not in the playoffs; we’re trying to do the best we can every game to make it count. We’re trying to build something here going into the future.”

During his four-goal outburst Thursday, Vrana-mania’s scouting report was on full display:

  • Strong shot: While falling to the ice, Vrana unleashed a sweeping wrister on his first goal,
  • Soft hands: Vrana deftly redirected a shot from the point for his second goal.
  • Elite Skater: Vrana capped his second career hat trick with a breakaway goal in the third period.
  • Creative playmaker: Vrana went to his backhand to convert a rebound, capping the first four-goal game by a Red Wings skater since Anthony Mantha on Oct. 6, 2019.

“He’s fast and he can shoot it,” coach Jeff Blashill said. “The goals were goal-scorer’s goals. When you have that ability to finish, it can really alter a game.”

Could he help alter a franchise?

Never mind it was just one memorable game.

Enjoy it.
