Quick Hits: Selke Season Edition

Winging It In Motown

SHL defenseman of the year, IIHF Tournament All-Star…what’s next for Seider? A trip to Hockeytown? One can only hope.

Patrice Bergeron has been nominated for the Selke for the last 10 years. If he wins this year, he’ll be the sole record-holder for most Selke trophies by career. Currently, he sits tied with Bob Gainey with 4 each. Capping off a decade of dominance with a sole record would be a huge win for Bergeron. He’s someone Dylan Larkin should model his game after.

Aleksander Barkov is a nice name to see on the list. The Florida Panther has often been pegged as an underrated player; seeing his name resurface on these types of nominations is a joy. Having said that, I’d be willing to bet that if Barkov played for a team like, say, Montreal, you’d never hear the end of him. With a contract to finish up this offseason, a Selke trophy would be a good incentive to pay the man his rightful due. Plus, it’ll be his first he’s ever earned — a huge win that’ll go a long way.

Last on the list is Mark Stone, the captain of the Golden Knights. It’s hard to dislike him. From his candid interviews to the emotion you see from him every night on the ice, Stone is one of the best players in the NHL right now — and he rarely receives his just dues. He’s a top scorer, top defensive forward, and plays on the number one penalty kill unit in the NHL. This would be Stone’s first he’s ever earned.
