Winging It In Motown

Detroit Red Wings Need to Trust Yzerman’s Deals at the Deadline – THW

Trust the Yzerplan.

The phrase is repeated over and over again, like a broken record, drilled into the collective minds of Detroit Red Wings fans everywhere.

After yesterday’s discussion in Quick Hits, in which you folks parsed the difference between blind faith, fair criticism, and (mythical) absolute hatred for Yzerman, this article was too good to pass up. It’s pretty light on details that talk about the Captain’s tenure in Tampa, despite that he’s actually got tenure in Detroit we could also be talking about (and did yesterday).

NHL slaps Sharks, Bob Boughner and Kurtis Gabriel with fines for pregame altercation – Mercury News

In addition, the Sharks were assessed a conditional fine of $25,000, which will be collected — in addition to any subsequent discipline — in the event of similar inappropriate behavior through one year, or until March 22, 2022. The fine money goes to the NHL Foundation.

Gabriel’s fine was less than $5K because he doesn’t make enough for that much to even be the maximum fine, but the bigger thing here is that the NHL actually did fine a coach and at least CONDITIONALLY fined an organization because of some dipshit who needed to be reined in and wasn’t.

Hooray for the illusion of meaningful change!
