Steve Yzerman kicked off the 4th round of the 2021 NHL Draft with a change of strategy — after trading up multiple times, he moved the 102nd pick to the Vegas Golden Knights for picks 114 and 155. With the 114th pick, Detroit selected C/LW Red Savage with the USDP.

Savage is committed to play hockey with Miami in the NCAA this upcoming season. He had a pretty nice year statistically, an also wore the “C” for Team USA at WJC-18.

Aside from having a really cool name that would mesh well with the BSD broadcast, Red Savage is your prototype bottom-six type of NHLer if it all pans out. He’s one of those penalty kill type specialist players according to a lot of scouting services.

There is a certain fearlessness in his game, playing physical, driving play, and really getting involved all over the ice. Offensively, in front of the net he is very competitive. Does well to gain body and stick positioning, and at the same time he is able to find second opportunities. Also shows his nose for the net during the rush, frequently pushing defensemen back on their heels. When he has possession he is creative while still being smart with the puck. -Future Considerations 2021 NHL Draft Guide
