Grand Rapids Griffins Weekly Report 3: Griffins Win on the Road

The Grand Rapids Griffins won both of their road games this weekend after a 6-5 OT win in Iowa and a 2-1 victory at Rockford.

Player to Watch

Jonatan Berggren

Jonatan Berggren has really started to jell with his Grand Rapids teammates.  In nine games, Berggren now has three goals, three assists, and six points.  It is only a matter of time before Berggren is considered for a call up to the Red Wings.

Detroit Prospect Update

Taro Hirose had a very good week and now leads the Griffins with two goals and 11 points in nine games.

Chase Pearson is averaging a point a game and has three goals and nine points in nine games.

Riley Barber is also averaging a points a game as he has four goals and nine points in nine games.

Ryan Murphy is leading the defense in scoring with two goals and six points in nine games.

Calvin Pickard played excellent this week earning victories in both games. Pickard is the 3rd string goalie for the Red Wings.  Pickard has a record of 4-2-0 with a 1.99 GAA and .936 SV%.

Next Week

The Griffins will host the Manitoba Moose in a pair of home games next weekend.  They start the weekend on Friday night and conclude their series with the Moose on Saturday.  Both games will be held at 7:00 PM ET at  Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI.

Joe Veleno will slot back into the lineup after a short stint on the Red Wings roster. He helped fill some of the gaps left by Dylan Larkin’s short absence. In four games with the Wings, Veleno nabbed a goal and an assist.
