Detroit Red Wings vs. Hurricanes Game 74 Preview, Prediction, Odds

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings have continued to tumble down the standings and struggle to find their way. On Tuesday night, they picked up a win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in a true back-and-forth battle between the two sides.

But, after a day off, the Detroit Red Wings will get right back into action. They will be playing two games in as many days as they try to find a couple of wins and get their caliber of play back under control before the season ends.

The first of the next two games comes against the Carolina Hurricanes on home ice, making for a tough match-up against a team that’s second in the conference, having a fantastic year. It will be a truly tough match-up for the Red Wings, but it should make for a good test.

After the Red Wings have seen prospect Carter Mazur turn professional after inking his entry-level contract, it will be interesting to see if he gets his chances to play for Detroit or heads to Grand Rapids and looks to crack the roster in ’23-24.

Detroit Red Wings game information and prediction vs. Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are 4-5-1 in their previous ten match-ups, dropping their most recent game to Tampa Bay in a 4-0 loss. Detroit has been a mess of its own, and Carolina is looking to come in and get back in the win column against a faltering Red Wings team.

The Hurricanes have been riding the likes of Sebastian Aho and Martin Necas lately, with Andrei Svechnikov having his season ended early with a torn ACL. Aho and Necas are both dangerous and have been consistent names on the scoresheet in the Hurricanes’ recent games.

Odds: According to DraftKings, the Carolina Hurricanes are the favorite in this one, with a -215 payout on the Moneyline. The Detroit Red Wings have a +185 payout on the Moneyline. The Red Wings are +1.5 with a -140 payout on the Puck Line. The Hurricanes are -1.5 with a +120 payout on the Puck Line. The over/under is set at 6. The over has a -115 payout, and the under has a -105 payout.

Prediction: Is this another installment of the Alex Nedeljkovic revenge game? No, no, it is not. He may be in net against the Hurricanes on Thursday night, but I’m not touching the Red Wings on the Moneyline or Puck Line in this one. I hope they prove me wrong, really. But there’s not much reason to think the Red Wings will pull this one off. For that reason, I like the Hurricanes -1.5 if you’re feeling ballsy or Hurricanes Moneyline.
