Red Wings sign UFA C Pius Suter to two year contract

Winging It In Motown

In a decently quiet free agency day for the Wings, Detroit GM Steve Yzerman made a bit of a splash on a young center who became available thanks to the Blackhawks choosing not to give Pius Suter a qualifying offer approaching restricted free agency.

The 25 year old Swiss forward will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this two year deal. He previously played in Guelph with Tyler Bertuzzi and Robin Fabbri

Suter put up 14 goals and 27 points playing about 2/3rds of his 5-on-5 time on Chicago’s top line with Alex DeBrincat and the other winger who puts up a lot of points.

His underlying numbers suggest he held his own well on top line duties but he’s a better fit for a 2C role. He’ll have plenty of chances to perform with the Wings.

Salary Structure: $3.25M AAV:
