Red Wings name alternate captains for 2021-22 regular season

Winging It In Motown

With the regular season set to begin, the Detroit Red Wings announced who will serve as captain and alternate captains. To no one’s surprise, Dylan Larkin will lead the team once again, but the alternates may be a surprise to some:

Danny DeKeyser and Marc Staal, both defensemen, will serve as the team alternates. Staal has found himself a home in Detroit after he was acquired from the New York Rangers. The 34-year-old veteran is with Detroit on a one-year deal worth some $2 million. DeKeyser has been with the team for the long haul — he’s one of the last men standing from the Ken Holland years after signing with Detroit as a free agent out of college at Western Michigan University.

The Detroit Red Wings will open 2021-2022 regular season at Little Caesars Arena, 7:30 Thursday night.
