Against the Flames a big part of why Detroit was out of sync was because passes were just a little bit later than players were expecting and they started creeping farther away from each other trying to get up ice. This led to harder passes to complete, less space up the ice, and more space for the counterattacks.
But Don’t Rely on your Sticks so Much
Poking the puck away from a player and then going off to the races is a great way to counterattack a desperate team. It’s also a great way to fail to slow them down at all. There’s nothing wrong with sweep checks, poke checks, and stick lifts, but nothing beats just flat out being in the guy’s way.

Montreal’s gonna get some power plays. Their PP is bad but don’t give it a chance to wake up against us. Strike on the chances you get instead (and hey, maybe score a shorty?)
