Red Wings NCAA Prospects Focus: Mazur scoring goals as freshman

Some of the Detroit Red Wings NCAA prospects are exceeding expectations as they close in on the Christmas Break.  Robert Mastrosimone continues to lead the Red Wings prospects in NCAA scoring.  Carter Mazur is seeing top six minutes despite only being a freshman at the #7 ranked University of Denver.

Here is a look at the Detroit prospects that have had an impact after Thanksgiving games.

Carter Mazur (LW)

Carter Mazur has had a nice start to his freshman year at the University of Denver.  During his last four games, Mazur has scored five goals and seven points.  Recently, Mazur was selected as NCHC Rookie of the Week.  For the season, the 2021 3rd round draft pick of the Red Wings has played 12 games and has recorded seven goals and ten points with a +7 rating.  After this season, Mazur has three years of NCAA eligibility remaining before he must be signed to a professional contract with Detroit.

Robert Mastrosimone (C/LW)

Robert Mastrosimone continues to be the top scoring Red Wings prospect in the NCAA.  Playing for Boston University, Mastrosimone recorded three assists during his last five contests.  For the season, the 2019 2nd round selection of the Red Wings has played 15 games and has recorded five goals and 11 points with a +3 rating.  After this season, Mastrosimone has one year of NCAA eligibility remaining before he must be signed to a professional contract with Detroit.

Ethan Phillips (C/RW)

Ethan Phillips continues to be more of a playmaker than a scorer while playing at Boston University.  Recently, Phillips missed two games but, during the three games he played most recently, Phillips recorded one assist.  For the season, the 2019 4th round selection of the Red Wings has played 13 games and has recorded one goal and seven points with a -2 rating.  After this season, Phillips has one year of NCAA eligibility remaining before he must be signed to a professional contract with Detroit.

Shai Buium (LD)

Shai Buium continues to play important minutes on defense for the University of Denver.  During his last four games, Buium has recorded four assists.  For the season, the 2021 2nd round draft pick of the Red Wings has played 12 games and has recorded seven assists with a +7 rating.  After this season, Buium has three years of NCAA eligibility remaining before he must be signed to a professional contract with Detroit.

Red Savage (C)

On the weekend, Red Savage scored his first NCAA goal while playing for the Miami (Ohio) University.  During his last six games, Savage has scored one goal and three points.  For the season, the 2021 4th round draft pick of the Red Wings has played 14 games and has recorded one goal and six points with a -5 rating.  After this season, Savage has three years of NCAA elegibility remaining before he must be signed to a professional contract with Detroit.

Sam Stange (RW)

Sam Stange is continuing to find it difficult to get on the scoreboard while playing for the University of Wisconsin.  During his last six games, Stange scored one goal.  For the season, the 2020 4th round draft pick of the Red Wings has played 16 games and has recorded two goals and four points with a -3 rating.  After this season, Stange has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining before he must be signed to a professional contract with Detroit.

Carter Gylander (G)

Carter Gylander continues to be the #1 goaltender for Colgate University.  The 2019 7th round selection of the Red Wings has played 12 games and has a record of 7-4-0, with a 2.39 GAA and .916 SV%.  After this season, Gylander has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining before he must be signed to a professional contract with Detroit.
