Red Wings: Fabbri scores twice in 6-2 loss to St. Louis Blues

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings suffered their second straight loss in St. Louis, losing 6-2 to the Blues. Robby Fabbri was the lone goal scorer for the Wings, netting two on the night.

First Period

Despite a strong start, Alex Nedeljkovic let a shot from beyond the faceoff circle trickle past for a goal.

A holding call on Nick Leddy gave St. Louis the first power play opportunity of the game. The Red Wings penalty kill came up strong, keeping the game within a goal.

But just after the power play expired, another holding sent the Blues right back to the power play. Again, the penalty kill shut down the Blues man advantage. However, just a few seconds after the power play expired, St. Louis scored another one to make it 2-0.

Second Period

The Red Wings came out strong, tilting the ice towards the Blues defensive zone and throwing pucks on net. The top line scored Detroit’s first goal of the night; Moritz Seider slipped a puck to Dylan Larkin in the offensive zone, who in turn threw it ahead to Lucas Raymond. The young forward dropped the puck back to a blitzing Fabbri, who found the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season.

Detroit kept the pressure coming, but a penalty gave the Blues their third power play of the game. Again, the penalty kill stifled the man advantage – and again, the Blues scored just after their power play expired.

Third Period

Thomas Greiss replaced Alex Nedeljkovic in net to start the third.

Detroit had their first power play a couple of minutes into the third. However, the Wings couldn’t convert, and the Blues retained the two goal lead.

After the failed power play, Detroit started to turn up the offensive zone pressure, but the St. Louis defense (and goaltender) kept the Wings off the board. But the Blues managed to score another goal, making it 4-1.

The Blues nabbed another goal to make it 5-1.

Fabbri got his second goal of the night with under five minutes left in the game, cashing in on a stellar stretch pass from Lucas Raymond.

Despite some pressure at the end, St. Louis got the empty netter to seal it with seconds left. Detroit is back at it tomorrow night against the Colorado Avalanche
