Day 3 of the World Juniors is complete with Canada blasting Austria 11-2 and Team USA forfeiting their game against Switzerland.

Multiple positive COVID-19 tests have resulted in Team USA forfeiting their game with Switzerland on Tuesday afternoon.  The team is under quarantine in their hotel until further notice.

According to World Juniors tournament rules, if a team cannot compete in a game, they must forfeit and will result in a 1-0 loss in the standings.  Team USA will be further evaluated and a decision on their next game against Sweden today at 9:30 PM ET will be announced this afternoon.

Red Wings prospects Carter Mazur and Red Savage played in Team USA’s only game of the tournament.  Mazur played 22 shifts for 16:44 TOI and recorded five shots on goal and an even +/- rating.  Savage played 18 shifts and 11:03 TOI in the game against Slovakia. Team USA certainly has their hands full should they play, and should they be short handed again, it will certainly jeopardize their chance at defending their gold medal from last season.

Donovan Sebrango- #7, LD, Canada

Donovan Sebrango continues to play steady defense for the powerful Canadian team.  Canada improved to a 2-0-0 record with the convincing 11-2 thrashing of Austria.  Canada will play Germany today at 7:00 PM ET.

1: Sebrango had 21 shifts with 16:03 TOI.

2: Sebrango had two shots on goal.

3: Sebrango had a +2 rating during the game.

4: Sebrango played a regular shift and was on the ice for one of the Austrian PP goals.

5: Sebrango played a steady game on defense and joined the rush on numerous occasions.

Sebastian Cossa

Sebastian Cossa was relegated to 3rd string goalie for Canada prior to the start of the tournament.  This is the same position Jan Bednar faced during last year’s tournament.  As it stands right now, do not expect Cossa to dress for Canada unless there is an injury or illness to one of the Canadian goaltenders.
