ABOUT LAST GAME: Red Wings take the San Jose Sharks to OT, but fall 3-2

Game notes: The Wings will try to bounce back from a heartbreaking overtime loss Tuesday to San Jose. Detroit took a 2-1 lead on a Nick Leddy goal with less than two minutes left in the fourth, but could not pick up two points on the road. Though Alex Nedeljkovic ceded the late goal, he made 37 saves on the night and was credited by coach Jeff Blashill for keeping the Wings in it. Now the Wings are back home for their first meeting with Winnipeg since Dec. 12, 2019, which was the second game of a home-and-home the teams split and a win that snapped a 12-game losing streak for Detroit.

This is for the fourth game of a lengthy eight-game road trip for Winnipeg. Thanks to the scheduled (then extended by COVID-19) December break, the Jets will have gone a month-plus between home games when they host the Panthers on Jan. 25. The Jets come to town fresh off a 7-1 loss Thursday but had won three in a row before that.  Kyle Connor has been their best offensive player with 19 goals and 16 assists over their last 35 games. Connor Hellebuyck is 13-10-4 with a .913 save percentage and 75 goals allowed over 27 games.

These two teams play against April 6 in Winnipeg. Following Thursday’s game, the Jets travel to Washington to play the Capitals on Tuesday. The Wings stay at home for a matchup Saturday with the Buffalo Sabres.
