Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings couldn’t make it three wins in a row after giving up a late Dallas goal that sent the game into OT.  Unfortunately, Dallas was rewarded a PP with just under 3:00 remaining in OT and scored the winner with the man advantage, 5-4 Stars.

Dallas scored on a bad-angle shot 12:03 into the first period.  Just 23 seconds later, Robby Fabbri scored a beautiful goal on a terrific pass from Tyler Bertuzzi to tie the game 1-1.  Detroit went 0/2 on the PP while Dallas went 0/1 on the PP during the first period.  Detroit had a slight edge in shots at 11-10.

Dallas scored on a screen shot at the 5:50 mark of the second period for a 2-1 lead.  Just under two minutes later, Bertuzzi made a perfect drop pass to Pius Suter who burried a wrist shot to tie the game at 2-2.  The Red Wings took a 3-2 lead on a highlight-reel unassisted effort by Dylan Larkin at the 9:16 mark of the second.  The lead lasted until late in the second  period before Dallas scored on a weird shot from the half wall, 3-3 at the end of the second.  Detroit killed off both penalties assessed during the period.  Dallas outshot Detroit 10-9 for the period.

Bertuzzi scored a PP goal on a bank shot off the Dallas defenseman at 13:46 of the third, 4-3 Red Wings.  Dallas tied the score 4-4 with 1:03 remaining in the 3rd period to send the game into OT. Detroit was 1/2 on the PP in the third, while Dallas went 0/1.  Shots on goal were tied 7-7 in the third.

Unfortunately, Robby Fabbri was assessed a tripping penalty with 2:51 remaining in OT.  Dallas scored on their 5th shot in OT to seal the victory.

After scoring one goal and adding two assists, Bertuzzi was named 2nd star of the game.  Dylan Larkin’s amazing end-to-end rush for a goal helped him secure the games 3rd star.

The Red Wings are now at halfway mark of the season and currently have a record of 18-17-6.  Detroit play in Nashville tomorrow night, game time is 8:30 PM ET.
