Griffins Report: Grand Rapids extends winless streak to five

The Grand Rapids Griffins endured a difficult week losing all three games by respective scores of 1-0 on Wednesday at Milwaukee, 4-1 on Friday at Chicago, and 5-0 at home Saturday against Milwaukee.

The Griffins now have a record of 15-15-7, good for 6th place in the Central Division.

Player Preview:  Victor Brattstrom

Victor Brattstrom played the first two games of the week for the Griffins.  On Wednesday, Brattstrom saved 21/22 shots in a 1-0 loss to Milwaukee.  On Wednesday, the Griffins lost their 7th game against Chicago this year despite Brattstrom making 36 saves.

On the year, Brattstrom has now played 10 games with Grand Rapids and has a 2-6-2 record, 3.73 GAA, and a .883 SV%.  Brattstrom will be a RFA at the end of the season and it should be interesting to see if the Detroit continue their experiment with the Swedish prospect.

Detroit Red Wings Prospects Update

Taro Hirose continues to lead the Griffins in scoring.  Like most of his teammates, Hirose was held without a point last week.  On the season, Hirose has played 36 games and has nine goals and 21 assists for 30 points, and a -12 rating.

Jonatan Berggren was also held without a point last week.  Berggren remains in 2nd place in scoring on  the Griffins.  In 34 games, Berggren has eight goals, 19 assists, 27 points, and a -6 rating.

Kyle Criscuolo remains 3rd in scoring for the Griffins.  In 28 games, Criscuolo has 12 goals, 13 assists, 25 points, and a -1 rating.

Chase Pearson continues to struggle offensively for the Griffins.  In 32 games, Pearson has four goals, nine assists, 13 points, and a -13 rating.

Jared McIsaac remains the Red Wings the top defense prospect playing in Grand Rapids.  McIsaac assisted on the Griffins only goal scored during the week.  In 36 games, McIsaac has three goals, 10 assists, 13 points, a -4 rating, and leads all defensemen with 60 shots on goal.

Dan Renouf continues to lead the Griffins with a +8 rating.  In 25 games this year, Renouf has chipped in offensively with seven assists.

Wyatt Newpower returned to the Griffins lineup this week.  Over the course of this season, Newpower has missed six games with the Griffins.  In 31 games, Newpower has three goals, three assists, six points, and a -2 rating.

Donovan Sebrango remains one of Detroit’s top defense prospects playing in the AHL.  Sebrango plays tough defensively and will have a shot to play in Detroit at some point in the future.  In 32 games, Sebrango has one goal, five assists, six points, and a +7 rating.

Next Week

Grand Rapids plays three home games in four days starting on Wednesday against the Toronto Marlies.  They then play back-to-back games against the Ontario Reign on Friday and Saturday.  All games have 7:00 PM ET starting times and will be played at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI.
