Red Wings NCAA Prospects: U of Denver Trio seek long trip to the Frozen Four

The regular season of NCAA men’s hockey is coming to an end with only about one week to play.  The first round of the NCAA Frozen Four bracket will be played March 24-25.  Second round games will be played March 26-27.  Both Semifinals will be played at TD Garden in Boston on April 7.  The Championship game will also be held at TD Garden on April 9.

Several Detroit prospects will possibly be playing in the bracket.  Detroit have three players (Carter Mazur, Shai Buium, Annti Tuomisto) on the #3 ranked University of Denver.  Cooper Moore plays for the #6 ranked team from the University of North Dakota.  John Adams plays for the #8 ranked University of Notre Dame.  Robert Mastrosimone and Ethan Phillips play on the #13 ranked University of Boston.

Prospect Focus: University of Denver Trio

Carter Mazur continues to lead all Red Wings NCAA prospects in scoring.  In his last eight games, Mazur scored one goal, six assists, seven points, and an even +/- rating.  During his freshman season, Mazur has played 32 games and has scored 12 goals, 19 assists, 31 points, and a +18 rating.

Shai Buium has started to really contribte to the offense while play defense in his rookie season for Denver.  In his last eight games, Buium scored one goal, five assists, six points, and a +2 rating.  In 30 games this season, Buium has two goals, 13 assists, 15 points, and a +13 rating.

Antti Tuomisto has continued his steady play as a junior defenseman at Denver.  In the last eight games, Tuomisto chipped in with one assist and a +2 rating.  In 31 games this year, Tuomisto has scored one goal, seven assists, eight points, and a +20 rating.

Here is a look at the remaining Detroit prospects that are currently playing in the NCAA.

Robert Mastrosimone (Junior, C/LW, Boston Univ.)
Robert Mastrosimone is currently the 3rd highest scorer on his Boston University team.  He is also the 2nd highest scoring Detroit Red Wings prospect playing in the NCAA.  Mastrosimone has now set personal records for NCAA goals, assists, and points in a season.  In his last five games, Mastrosimone scored two goals, three assists, five points, and a +5 rating.  In 30 games this year, Mastrosimone has 11 goals, 12 assists, 23 points, and a +9 rating.

Red Savage (Freshman, C, Miami Univ. Ohio)
Red Savage is the 3rd highest scoring Detroit prospect playing in the NCAA.  In his last six games, Savage picked up one assist and a +1 rating.  In 31 games this year, Savage has scored six goals, 10 assists, 16 points, and a -8 rating.

Ethan Phillips (Sophomore, C/RW, Boston University)

Ethan Phillips is currently 7th in scoring on Boston.  In his last five games, Phillips scored one goal, one assist, two points, and an even +/- rating.  In 25 games this season, Phillips has scored six goals, nine assists, 15 points, and a +3 rating.

John Adams (Senior, RW/C, Univ. of Notre Dame)
John Adams is once again chipping in offensively for Notre Dame.  In his last eight games, Adams has scored two goals, four assists, six points, and a +3 rating.  In 32 games this year, Adams has scored four goals, 10 assists, 14 points, and a +4 rating.

Ryan O’Reilly (Sophomore, RW/C, Arizona State Univ.)
Ryan O’Reilly was held scoreless in his last four games for Arizona.  In 29 games this season, O’Reilly has scored six goals, five assists, 11 points, and a -8 rating.

Sam Stange (Sophomore, RW, Univ. of Wisconsin)
Sam Stange
chipped in with one goal and two assists, with a -8 rating  in his last seven games.  In 34 games this season, Stange has scored three goals, six assists, nine points, and a -12 rating.

Cooper Moore (Sophomore, LD, University of North Dakota)

Cooper Moore continues to play fairly well for the powerful North Dakota defense.  In 32 games, Moore has scored one goal, six assists, seven points, and a +4 rating.

Chase Bradley (Freshman, LW/C, University of Connecticut)

Chase Bradley continues to play a supporting roll as a freshman at Connecticut.  In 26 games, Bradley has scored three goals, three assists, six points, and a +1 rating.

Kyle Aucoin (Freshman, LD, Harvard University)

Kyle Aucoin continues to play a limited roll on defense as a freshman at Harvard.  In 24 games, Aucoin has two assists and a +2 rating.
