Red Wings Free Agency Frenzy: David Perron

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings are making a statement in their own way- or not. Adding yet another former St. Louis Blues player, the Red Wings are clearly looking to make a jump.

The Detroit Red Wings made a big splash yesterday in free agency. That was something that led to a lot of controversy in the Red Wings community. Some people thought that they were going to spend some money in order to make a jump this upcoming season. Others thought differently.

The other half thought that the Red Wings shouldn’t go and spend money because it’s pre-mature. They have so many young players that are going to be competing for roster spots that many feel that the signings they make are simply just a waste of space.

In my opinion, if you care, neither are wrong per-say. However, I feel that having a team full of rookies isn’t the way to go. I feel you need the veteran signings. The proven players. That’s how you are going to become a winning organization once again.

Rookies make too many mistakes because they haven’t experienced the NHL level of play before. These guys are literally paid a large amount of money to make sure that other teams and players don’t succeed. That’s why free agency is so important for teams like the Red Wings.

Yesterday, they signed many talented players to help add depth, scoring power, and defensive talent.

They signed Andrew Copp which landed them their center two behind captain, Dylan Larkin. With the addition of Ben Chiarot, they got a blue line defenseman who can add veteran experience and leadership on a young defensive core. With the addition of Dominik Kubalik, they got a very talented depth forward. And that leads us into the big name on this article- David Perron.
