Predicting the Red Wings Opening Night Roster

Octopus Thrower

After a productive off-season, Red Wings hockey is getting close to starting. And with a re-vamped roster this year, there are a lot of question marks.

The Detroit Red Wings are back to work and it is getting a lot of people in the hockey mood. But as we all know, pre-season and training camp doesn’t hold the same attraction. However, for the Red Wings, we’re all getting a new look at some of the top prospects in not just the Red Wings system, but the NHL as a whole.

With Simon Edvinsson, Sebastian Cossa, Elmer Soderblom and more currently with the team in Detroit for training camp, there have been a lot of eyes on the young guys. But let’s not forget about some of the new players on the NHL roster that they added. With a new roster, we all need to prepare ourselves for what’s to come.

The Red Wings roster last season had a lot of talented players, but let’s face the truth, there were also a lot of players holding a roster spot that held the team back last year. And with that, Yzerman made sure to be smart with his choices this year in order to open many spots to some of the league’s best free agents.

After a disappointing season last year, the Red Wings are now looking at a roster that will contain David Perron, Ben Chiarot, Dominik Kubalik, Oli Mattaa, and Andrew Copp. And more than likely, all those names are going to see significant playing time this year which means that there will be a couple names left out from last years roster. Knowing that, it arises the question, what will the opening night roster look like? Here’s my prediction.

Forwards

Tyler Bertuzzi-Dylan Larkin-Lucas Raymond

Filip Zadina-Andrew Copp-Jakub Vrana
