Detroit Red Wings vs. Wild Game 29 Preview, Prediction, Odds

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings are fresh off a 1-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes from last night. They got on a plane and headed to Minnesota, where they are slated to take on the Wild. The Red Wings fell on home ice and are looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Detroit Red Wings have a (13-9-6) record, which gives them 32 points which is good for fourth in the Atlantic Division. The Wild have a (15-11-2) record to compare, which is good for fourth in the Central Division.

For the Red Wings, it’s going to be a tough one once again. With Dylan Larkin sustaining an injury in Tuesday night’s loss, they’ll be without their captain. The odds are not quite in their favor as they prepare for their contest with the Wild.

Besides injuries, the Red Wings are on a back-to-back stretch, playing two games within a 24-hour span, with a flight involved. The Red Wings will have their work cut out for them, but it’s not game over already.

Detroit Red Wings game information and prediction vs. Wild.

Nothing has been confirmed for the Red Wings goaltender tomorrow night, but it seems like a game that might be given to the struggling Alex Nedeljkovic. There’s also a chance that Magnus Hellberg gets a look after being recalled from his conditioning loan with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Ville Husso has played the last two games, and with some time off between Saturday and Tuesday, he may end up playing again on Wednesday, but there may be a change of pace from Derek Lalonde.

On top of that, Elmer Söderblom has been recalled and will slot into the lineup. Michael Rasmussen likely jumps into Larkin’s spot, and things change up quite a bit for the Red Wings offense in tonight’s game.

Where to Watch: Bally Sports Detroit, TNT

Key Players Out For Red Wings: Dylan Larkin – Confirmed Out, Robert Hagg- Undisclosed Injury, Olli Matta – Placed on IR

Odds:  UPDATED AS OF 2:30 PM ET

According to DraftKings, the Minnesota Wild are the Moneyline favorite, with -255 odds to win. The Red Wings are favored on the Puck Line at +1.5 with -120 odds. The over/under is currently set at 6, with the over being the favorite at -120 ods.

Now that we have some of the odds laid out let’s look at the game a bit deeper and offer some predictions.

Prediction: This one’s tough to forecast. I’m not taking the Red Wings Moneyline without Dylan Larkin. With the goaltending situation not being confirmed yet, it’s an even scarier bet. No shade to Hellberg, but I’m not sure I like the Red Wings +1.5 with Nedeljkovic or Hellberg in net. Frankly, I’d take the over at 6.5 if Nedeljkovic is in net.

Larkin being out also makes it a tougher look. It’s going to be a game of props. Once the odds come out tomorrow, I will try to update this with some props that are worth a look!

UPDATED ODDS PREDICTIONS: I still like the over in this game, but that’s now the favorite, so you’re not making as much, but still worth considering. But getting into some props as I said I would. I like David Perron (-120 odds) or Dominik Kubalík (-115 odds) over 2.5 shots-on-goal. It seems like a game where the Red Wings may rely on getting pucks to the net, so hitting some over’s might be worth considering.

Beyond the odds, the Red Wings have their work cut out for them. While the Hurricanes spoiled things last night, it seemed that they just let the Hurricanes execute their game plan. They forced the Red Wings to the outside in the offensive zone and made it hard to get in tight on the netminder.

For the Red Wings, they are going to have to try to get in tight while in the offensive zone. Beyond that, they will need to neutralize Kirill Kaprizov and Matthew Boldy. Not to mention, veteran Mats Zuccarello still has the jets to fly around the ice.

Expect the Red Wings’ defense core to have their hands full with the opposing forwards. But if they can limit the Wild’s scoring chances, they have a better chance. It really does feel like things are stacked against the Red Wings for tonight’s contest. Hopefully, the Red Wings will find a way.
