The Detroit Red Wings are continuing to push along with the 2022-23 season. They were able to pick things up and get back on track by the end of the month. As the Red Wings continue with the season, they will cling to life.
The New Year is upon the Detroit Red Wings, and they have a chance to keep fighting and clawing for a playoff spot. For the Red Wings, staying in the hunt is a much-needed improvement for them, especially after the last few seasons.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that the Red Wings will not likely get into the post-season in 2022-23. However, the Red Wings have obstacles in the way. They were clinging to life and staying in a Wild Card position before they lost six games in a row in mid-December.
If they can get rolling during the 2022-23 season, the Red Wings could claw back into the hunt. Steve Yzerman has done plenty to keep bringing this team close to a competitive level.
The Detroit Red Wings are in position to be lurking around the post-season hunt.
However, the Red Wings were able to snap out of it and pick up two wins near the end of the month, including a colorful overtime win in Pittsburgh where Jake Walman played his way into a promotion after scoring the overtime goal.
Currently, the Red Wings are 15-12-7 with 34 games under their belt with 37 total points on the season. This is good for fifth in the Atlantic Division. They are fourth in the Wild Card standings and continue to stick around.
The Red Wings were expected to make improvements coming into the seasons, and people did not expect them to be a true contender, but why not ride the wave and see if they can end up in the playoffs?
More young players are on the way, including former first-rounder Marco Kasper. With options there to re-fuel the NHL roster, the Red Wings should be eager to keep making a push. If the Red Wings can stay in the hunt, they should do what it takes.
Suppose that means targeting someone before the trade deadline, like a boost at forward Brock Boeser or defender Jakob Chychrun. The Red Wings can continue to find ways to play better, during up things defensively or tapping into some offense to try and win games.
As long as they keep putting points up on the board and avoid another six-game skid, they certainly have a chance to end up with a Wild Card spot.
