Octopus Thrower

Detroit Red Wings forward and captain Dylan Larkin has made history. During the game on Tuesday night, Larkin picked up his 400th career point after an assist on the team’s first goal of the night.

The Detroit Red Wings were able to grab a 1-0 lead early in the second period, and Larkin assisted on that to reach the 400-point threshold. He was up near the blue-line skating with the puck before he turned and fired one on net.

It was Adam Erne in front of the net who got a stick on Larkin’s shot and re-directed it downward to beat Sharks goalie James Reimer. A simple goal and simple play that resulted in Larkin accomplishing some history.

Here is a clip of the goal as Larkin turns and shoots to set up the eventual first goal.

Larkin has 15 goals and 27 assists for 42 total points through 45 games at the time of writing. He could easily add another point before the end of the game against the Sharks, as he has been all over the offensive zone early on. Overall, Larkin has 162 goals and 238 assists over 549 games for his 400 career points.

In a contract year, the more production, the better. Larkin is looking for a big deal. The Red Wings are reportedly in a contract stalemate with their captain, Dylan Larkin. While both sides appear to agree on an eight-year contract, the value seems to be the issue.

Both sides seem to be in agreement that somewhere between $8-9 million will be the final spot, but they continue to negotiate.

Larkin’s 400th career point is not going to be the difference in a contract negotiation, but he continues to piece together a good season and prove that he can be a big part of what the Red Wings are trying to accomplish.
