Detroit Red Wings: Filip Hronek sustains upper-body injury during practice

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings got back on the ice after the All-Star Break and have begun preparing for the second half of the season. While the big news in the Red Wings camp continues to be Dylan Larkin and his possible contract extension, there was some negative news on Sunday.

The Detroit Red Wings were back on the ice and back in action, but defenseman Filip Hronek exited early and has since had some injury buzz starting to come up. Hronek has an upper-body injury and will continue undergoing evaluation as the team prepares for Tuesday’s contest against the Edmonton Oilers.

Writer for The Athletic, Max Bultman, had this to say about Hronek and his upper-body injury. Nothing concrete, and it seemingly is not the most severe injury, but is something to monitor as the Red Wings get ready to open things up in the second half.

Detroit Red Wings could be without Filip Hronek to start the second half.

Hronek has been one of the steady producers amongst the entire team. He’s easily been the team’s best defenseman offensively, has settled into the role back on the blue line, and is coming into his own.

His abilities on the blue line have only strengthened things for the Red Wings. With the second half starting up, they hope to get out of the gate running and string together some wins. This could be huge for the Red Wings if they want to avoid a cliff dive in the standings. Then again, the draft class topped with Connor Bedard could yield some impressive talent.

The point is Hronek was a massive piece of the team’s defense core in the first half of the season. He has played in 48 games, with seven goals and 26 assists for a total of 33 points. Hronek even has managed a great plus-12 ranking.

The Red Wings may have him back in time for Tuesday’s game as coach Derek Lalonde said they will keep evaluating him, but his upper-body injury could be an issue.

The Red Wings continue to get ready to get back in action, but they could be without Hronek, who may miss some time. Being without Hronek really would leave a hole in the team’s defense group. There has to be hope that Hronek’s injury is minor and that his leaving practice early was precautionary.

Hopefully, Hronek will be back on the ice in time for Tuesday’s match-up with the Red Wings.
