Detroit Red Wings vs. Blackhawks Game 64 Preview, Prediction, Odds

Octopus Thrower

Counting an overtime loss against the Kraken, the Detroit Red Wings have dropped their last six games. It’s been a big dive off the deep end of the Red Wings since the trade deadline week. The playoff hopes were short and sweet, but now the Red Wings are just looking to finish the season strong.

For the Detroit Red Wings, this comes with them looking to get back in the win column after their six-game skid has continued on. They will play host to the Chicago Blackhawks, so they’re in an excellent position to try and snap the skid.

The Blackhawks are without Max Domi and Patrick Kane, who were traded to competing teams at the deadline. Chicago is firmly entrenched in the battle for Connor Bedard, with hopes that they can land the projected future generational talent.

Now, the Red Wings are crashing the party, hoping to improve their draft position as well. It’s not that their draft position will significantly increase, but they could improve things a bit. They’re not fully in tank mode, but it’s a much different team than a few weeks before.

Detroit Red Wings game information and prediction vs. Blackhawks

Without Domi and Kane around, the Blackhawks are relying on other sources of offense. Seth Jones has been hot the last few games, with four goals in Chicago’s last five, so keep an eye on him as he patrols the blueline.

A couple of familiar faces are the other impact players for the Blackhawks. Former Red Wings forward Andreas Athanasiou is looking to step up his offense without the team’s regular producers. In net, former Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek is likely to be who mans the crease.

The Blackhawks also have Tyler Johnson, formerly of the Tampa Bay Lightning and a nemesis of Detroit; he’s likely good for a point or a goal against Detroit.

Odds: According to DraftKings, the Detroit Red Wings are the favorite on the Moneyline with a -240 payout, while the Blackhawks have a +200 payout on the Moneyline. The Blackhawks are +1.5 with a -130 payout on the Puck Line, and the Red Wings are -1.5 with a +110 payout on the Puck Line. The over/under is currently set at 6.0. The over has a -105 payout, and the under has a -115 payout.

Prediction: The Detroit Red Wings are the favorite here. Even with the Red Wings being a much different team than a few weeks ago. However, the Red Wings should still be able to get things done against Chicago. For that reason, I like Detroit Moneyline and the over. Also might be worth looking at the odds for a Tyler Johnson goal since he seems to be a Red Wings killer.
