Detroit Red Wings: Filip Zadina likely to be out for remainder of ’22-23

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings continue pushing along the needle on the 2022-23 season, limping closer and closer to the finish line. Not only have things taken a turn for the worse, but the injury bug has also continued to be problematic.

The latest to be announced as injured is Detroit Red Wings forward Filip Zadina, who will miss time and will likely miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season. He is dealing with a lower-body injury. Currently labeled as day-to-day, but the hopes are not high.

The Red Wings still have him labeled day-to-day, but that is the same status given to Robby Fabbri after he sustained a knee injury. He’s now also expected to miss the remainder of the season after the initial reports were optimistic for a quick return.

Zadina was finally healthy and able to get going with the team after the calendar flipped to 2023, his season is likely over, and he will miss the remaining slate of games if the reports are true.

Detroit Red Wings forward Filip Zadina is likely done for the year.

Zadina has played in 30 games for the Red Wings this season, being able to try and get back on track after he has been pretty disappointing to start his NHL career. The Red Wings forward has three goals and four assists for seven total points during the 2022-23 campaign.

He was red-hot in his return, playing well and settling in nicely. It looked like Zadina might carve out some playing time in the bottom six for the Red Wings the rest of the way. He ultimately could not really get the offense going as expected and is likely done for the rest of the season.

The Red Wings have made their fair share of additions in the last few days, including prospect Marco Kasper and NCHC standout Carter Mazur on entry-level deals. All the injuries could carve out some time for these young prospects to play in an NHL game or two, getting their chance to make a debut.

Time will tell; with the Red Wings slated for their matchup tonight against the Penguins, they called up depth addition Taro Hirose in place of Zadina on an emergency basis. He may stick with the team until decisions are made on which prospects may get their chance to play at the NHL level to finish the 2022-23 season.

Zadina is likely out for the year, helping the Red Wings’ odds to land a lottery pick and have a chance at Connor Bedard to improve with each loss. But after how well things went to start the second half of the season, no one wants to think that way.
