Be Better golf outing June 12 with Justin Abdelkader as guest

Detroit Free Press

HOLLAND TWP. – Be Better will be host its second annual golf outing on June 12, 2023, at Macatawa Golf Club.

Just like last year, the outing will feature 18 holes at Macatawa Golf Club, and will include lunch as well as a number of unique raffle items, including a signed Jake Moody game-worn jersey, a Riley Greene autographed bat, and a bowling pin signed by the top eight PBA bowlers in the world.  In addition, Justin Abdelkader of the Detroit Red Wings will also be participating in the outing, and will be available for autographs and pictures.

In the first outing in 2022, we raised $40,000, and 100% of those donations were used to provide services to over 70 families.  Be Better offers individual and family consultations, adolescent and family support groups, as well as education programs.  There will be additional programming planned for 2023 and 2024 that is focused on athletes and their unique challenges.

Be Better; was founded by Jill and Steve Miskelley after the tragic loss of their son, Ian, who died by suicide at the age of 19.  Ian was a scholarship swimmer at University of Michigan.  He was also a brave young man who battled his mental illness demons openly.  Be Better’s mission is to walk alongside athletes, systems of care, families and individuals to improve mental wellness, and address mental illness and suicidality.  Ian inspires us every day to speak up and help those suffering in silence.
