The Detroit Red Wings announced their schedule for the 2023-24 NHL season on Tuesday.

The Wings will open on the road against the New Jersey Devils on October 12.  Their home opener will be two days later as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 14.  It marks the second time in the last three seasons that the Lightning will be Detroit’s first opponent of the season at Little Caesars Arena.

The highlight of the schedule is a pair of games at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.  The Red Wings will “visit” the Ottawa Senators there on November 16 and then “host” the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 17 as part of the NHL Global Series.

Detroit’s traditional New Years Eve home game will be played against the Boston Bruins.

The only home-and-home series of the season is the final two games of the campaign against the Montreal Canadiens; in Detroit on April 15 and at Montreal’s Bell Centre the next night.

The Red Wings play on back-to-back nights eight times throughout the schedule.  The set in Sweden is the only pair of such games played in the same location.

Detroit’s longest homestand of the season is a six game stretch in late January and early February broken by the All-Star Break.  The Red Wings close out March and begin April with a five-game road trip, their longest of the schedule.
