Red Wings Add Forward Fischer as Free Agent

The Detroit Red Wings announced the signing of free agent forward Christian Fischer on Sunday morning.

The deal, originally rumored on Saturday, is for one year with a salary cap hit of $1,125,000.

This feels like an Adam Erne replacement move.  Last night I looked at the players coming in and out of the Wings’ roster after Day One of free agency and thought that all of the forwards were clear upgrades.  This is a much more lateral move and I question its necessity.

Apparently Coyotes fans loved Fischer and were disappointed that he wasn’t given a qualifying offer by Arizona.
