Detroit Red Wings still to rely on David Perron in 2023-24

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings made some changes this off-season. They have added in some pieces and lost others. It’s been a busy off-season for the Red Wings trying to figure things out. While they were able to pick up Alex DeBrincat in a blockbuster trade, he will have to bring some offense of his own.

For the Detroit Red Wings, the team has to be hoping that they can find some offense in other areas. Some of that will come from the returning players; one of them is veteran David Perron, who needs to find the back of the net again in 2023-24.

Before the 2022-23 season, Perron was brought in during free agency and has become a fan-favorite while also being more than serviceable for the Red Wings. He’s performed well offensively and has been worth the money.

Even at 35 years old, the Red Wings should be more than happy with how well he has performed and held up. He’s truly a workhorse, and the Red Wings need to hold their expectations once again when it comes to Perron.

Detroit Red Wings are set to rely on David Perron again.

While he may not have to play as big of a role as he did in 2022-23, there will still be plenty asked of Perron. The Red Wings need him to produce and tap into the scoring, being someone who can find the back of the net, invigorating the forward core.

Perron is fresh off his first year in a winged wheel uniform. He played 67 games for the Red Wings, scoring 27 goals and adding 30 assists for 57 total points. It was an excellent performance for the winger, and there has to be hope for more.

It’s not that he will come out and catch absolute fire, but the Red Wings should still be hoping for success. Especially if they want to improve the overall health of the team’s forward core. Getting him in the mix and seeing him pump out some content will be huge.

It’s not that Perron needs to go out and score 40 goals or even 30 goals, but the success he tapped into last season leaves plenty to be excited about. Perron will be taking home $4.75 million this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent after the fact.

But, before then, he will be a valuable piece of the puzzle when it comes to the Red Wings’ offense & forward core.
