The Detroit Red Wings want to make some moves in 2023-24. After a big off-season of additions, with Alex DeBrincat headlining the slew of moves. This should bring an uptick in offense once again.
One of the players primed for a big season is Lucas Raymond. While his performance for the Detroit Red Wings may not have lived up to some folks’ standards in 2022-23, Raymond is looking to improve his performance further this season.
With some new offensive firepower to be placed around him, Raymond should be able to come out and take a leap in his performance, finding ways to go out and produce at a higher level. After competing in the Rookie of the Year conversation in his first year, Raymond had a slight sophomore slump last year.
But Raymond will be just fine, and the Red Wings should be excited to see how he does during the 2023-24 season. With a few more assets around, he should be able to get the offense rolling and settle in for Detroit quite well.
Detroit Red Wings should expect improvements for Lucas Raymond.
Raymond came into training camp as a rookie, fought for a roster spot, and was exceptional for the Red Wings organization. Raymond scored 23 goals as a rookie and added 34 assists for 57 total points over his 82-game stint.
He came back last season and underwhelmed in the eyes of some, but in reality, he was more than adequate. Raymond played in 74 games, where he scored 17 goals and added 28 assists for 45 total points during the campaign.
In 2023-24, he’s going to look to go out and improve these numbers even further. He has the skills to do it; that’s been proven already. Plus, with the likelihood of better offense around him, given some of the additions, I like Raymond’s odds to bounce back this season.
Raymond played alongside Dylan Larkin mostly, and with Alex DeBrincat in town, they may have a new linemate. It will be interesting to see how the Red Wings roll out their forwards on the top two lines this season.
No matter how it shakes out, Raymond has a chance to be a real force in the Red Wings offense, finding ways to produce and put up points. The Red Wings should be excited to see Raymond hit the ice this fall.
According to Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde, Raymond has improved his build, putting on some weight, and that could be another tell-tale sign that Raymond is primed for a big season. After getting his “sophomore slump” out of the way, Raymond has a chance for a big performance this year.
Not to mention, a big performance this season could only help Raymond as he looks to earn his contract extension. It will be interesting to see how the extension shakes out for Raymond, but he can help his odds for more money if he were to go out and perform well.
