Red Wings drop opener 4-2 to Stars at NHL Prospects Tournament

Elmer Soderblom and Antti Tuomisto scored Detroit’s goals, Nate Danielson had two assists and Cross Hanas and Riley Sawchuk had an assist each.

Goalie Sebastian Cossa stopped 14-of-16 shots in 30:08 of ice time. Jan Bednar stopped 10-of-11 shots with the Stars scoring into the empty net with 1:11 left in the third period.

Forward Carter Mazur left the game with a lower body injury and didn’t return for the third period.

The Dallas goals were scored by Gavin White, Matthew Siminoff, Chase Wheatcroft and Matej Blumel. Goalie Remi Poirer stopped 32-of-34 shots for the Stars, who led 2-1 after one period and 3-2 after two periods.

The Wings’ next game in the four-team tournament is Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 3:30 p.m. They’ll wrap up the 24th edition of the prospects tourney on Sunday against the Toronto Maple Leafs at 2 p.m.

Also on Thursday, the Blue Jackets beat the Maple Leafs 7-3. Ex-Wolverine Adam Fantilli had two assists with a team-high six shots for Columbus. Former Wing Robert Mastrosimone had an assist for Toronto.
