Detroit Red Wings vs. Senators Game 5 Preview, Prediction, Odds

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings are heading east to take on the Ottawa Senators. It’s been a fun start to the season, as the team has gotten off to a good start. Detroit’s won their last three after dropping the season opener.

The Detroit Red Wings will be taking their three-game win streak to take on Ottawa, who’s also riding a three-game win streak. It’s a matchup of dueling 3-1-0 teams who are both off to a good start on the 2023-24 campaign.

The two clubs have become something of a “rival” over the last calendar year. In 2022-23, there were some match-ups where tempers flared, and the two sides played some chippy hockey. The good news is Detroit is not expected to be pushed around by the Senators.

Detroit’s a much different team than last season and has things clicking. They’re playing a well-rounded game and are averaging 4.75 goals per game, which is near the top of the league. Not to mention that the power play is at the top of the league.

The Red Wings are firing on all cylinders. The Senators are off to a good start as well. With that in mind, it’s likely to be a really fun game for a Saturday afternoon contest.

Odds: According to DraftKings, the Ottawa Senators have the home-ice advantage and are the favorite on the Moneyline with a -155 payout. For the Detroit Red Wings, they have a +130 payout on the Moneyline. On the Puck Line, the Red Wings are the favorite at +1.5, with a -192 payout. The Senators are -1.5 with a +160 payout on the Puck Line. The over/under is set at 6.5 as of now. The over is the favorite with a -135 payout, and the under has a +114 payout.

Prediction: With two teams off to a good start, there should be plenty to keep an eye on. The netminders are expected to be Ville Husso against Joonas Korpisalo. On paper, the season is young, but with these two teams, it should make for a good game. That being said, it’s hard to waver either way on the Moneyline, and personally, I don’t fancy the Puck Line.

With this game, the value is going to come on player props as well as the over. The over is the favorite, so the payout is not the best, but I’d expect both teams to find the twine. In terms of player props, Alex DeBrincat has the hot hand right now, so why not ride the hot hand with the “anytime goalscorer” pick? Keep an eye on the player prop odds this morning and seek value with the usual suspects.
