Detroit Red Wings vs. Flames Game 6 Preview, Prediction, Odds

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings wrapped up a victory in Ottawa early Saturday afternoon and did the ol’ turn-and-burn as they headed back to Detroit. They secured their fourth-straight win against the Senators on Saturday as they improved to 4-1-0 after dropping the season opener.

The Detroit Red Wings will take on another Canadian team now as the Calgary Flames come to town looking to end the Red Wings win streak. The Flames are 2-2-1 in the early campaign, still looking to get their feet under them as they start the 2023-24 campaign.

Detroit has things firing on all cylinders early on. It feels like this team is geared up to turn some heads in 2023-24 if they have not already started to get some more attention. The Red Wings continued scoring against the Senators and continued to see success on the power play.

Detroit has managed 4.8 goals for per game, to Calgary’s 2.8 goals for per game. On the flip side, Calgary has averaged 3.4 goals against per game in the youthful season, whereas Detroit’s limited opponents to 2.6 goals against per game.

The thing working against Detroit is the quick turnaround. It’s still early, so the fatigue of road trips and lengthy stints of games has not yet set in. But a quick turnaround for the team to head to Ottawa, play a tough game, and then jet home could be tough on Detroit.

Calgary played on Friday, and Detroit is the last leg of their road trip, so they have a bit more rest and some fresh legs as they head into Sunday’s contest, but they are also on an early-season road trip. For Detroit, this is the type of game where they would let the Flames hang six goals on them and struggle to even put up a fight in 2022-23.

There’s got to be some hope that Detroit can come out strong and play to a different tune on Sunday, again trying to change the narrative about what this team will be like in 2023-24.

The over has a -115 payout, and the under has a -105 payout.

Prediction: The Detroit Red Wings have won their last four and are off to a red-hot start this season. It’s been a lot of fun to watch this team. They look different, transformed, and like they’re having fun, something that cannot be said about a lot of their games over the past few seasons. It’s hard to hammer the Red Wings Moneyline in this one, with the back-to-back games being a kryptonite in recent years, but, as I just said, I think this Red Wings team is different.

That being said, I’m taking the Red Wings Moneyline as the underdog, and also, the over could be enticing once netminders are confirmed for the contest. On top of that, Dylan Larkin has been on an absolute tear to start things off. The goals may not be aplenty, but he’s been a playmaker and a driving force on that Red Wings power-play unit. Look for some value in the player props with Dylan Larkin for this contest vs. Calgary.
