Detroit Red Wings vs. Jets Game 8 Preview, Prediction, Odds

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings were rolling on an absolute heater with a five-win streak. They fell to Seattle in overtime on Tuesday, in a game tainted by the officiating. Detroit fought hard and was able to battle back in the contest, but Seattle was able to get the OT goal to pick up the win.

It stopped the Detroit Red Wings from their sixth in a row, but it opened the opportunity for a new win streak to begin. For the Red Wings, this comes on home ice once again in a big week of games as they look to pick up some more points and add to the season total.

They’ll play host to Winnipeg, who’s beginning a weekend road trip to Detroit and Montreal. The Jets are an even 3-3-0 on the year, looking to compete in the Western Conference as part of the Central Division.

They’ll be a good test for Detroit, as the two sides have had some spirited battles with one another. The Red Wings will face off against Connor Hellebuyck, a former Vezina winner who can be a tough netminder to beat.

The Red Wings have a history of struggling against goalies with a good track record. They’ve allowed Andrei Vasilevskiy to steal games from them in the past, so this will be a good test, especially with the Red Wings offense firing on all cylinders.

However, the Red Wings may be without their top goalscorer, as Alex DeBrincat has fallen ill, which might test the Red Wings’ depth as they try to get the best of Winnipeg. Detroit’s been playing exceptionally well, so why expect different from them? Buy-in.

Odds: According to DraftKings, the Detroit Red Wings have a -102 payout on the Moneyline, while the Winnipeg Jets are listed as -118 on the Moneyline. However, there’s a clear favorite on the Puck Line, with Detroit being -265 at +1.5 at the time of writing. Winnipeg is -1.5 with a +215 payout on the Puck Line. The over/under is currently set at 6.5, and both have a -110 payout.

Prediction: When it comes to the early parts of the Detroit Red Wings 2023-24 season, there have been a few common themes. The power play is revamped, and they are excellent. The offense is aplenty, and the team is able to hang in games well. The safe bet here is to take the Red Wings on the Puck Line, with the expectation being that Detroit can stay competitive and stay within one goal or win.

There’s not much money to be made with the Moneyline odds, but for prediction’s sake, give me Detroit Moneyline. There may also be some value in riding the hot hand with Dylan Larkin. Consider Larkin over 0.5 points in this one if the odds are nice, or maybe roll it into a parlay for those who like that action.
