Potential team names for the new Professional Women’s Hockey League’s inaugural six teams were revealed by trademark filings made on Wednesday.

Applications for Toronto Torch, Montreal Echo, Ottawa Alert, Minnesota Superior, Boston Wicked, and New York Sound were all filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office by PWHL Holdings, LLC.

Screen capture from the USPTO search displaying the six potential PWHL team names.

The trademarks were filed under the category of “Entertainment in the nature of hockey games; Organization of ice hockey games.”

PWHL Holdings, LLC, is the organization that filed for a trademark last week on potential logos for the league.  Those logos were formally unveiled on Tuesday.

It is important to note that these trademark applications do not mean that these are for certain the six team names.  It is possible that these are just some of the options for PWHL team names, with more to come in the future.  We’ve seen multiple team names trademarked in the run-up to the launch of the identities for both the Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken, for example.
