Detroit Red Wings clash with frenemy in match-up vs. Maple Leafs

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings are overseas for one more matchup. In game two, they will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Red Wings and Maple Leafs have their own rivalry, but there may be some friendly remarks to & from one Toronto player, whom Red Wings fans surely know & love.

Tyler Bertuzzi spent several years with the Detroit Red Wings organization before being traded to Boston in a deal at last year’s deadline. Bertuzzi signed with Toronto this off-season and will likely receive some stick taps and friendly jargon from Red Wings players during warm-ups.

On the other hand, Detroit should be looking to play with some fire in their game. After the way they started on Thursday, Detroit needs to bounce back. They may have battled back in the overtime loss to the Senators, but that game also struggled early on.

Something has to give in the matchup against the Maple Leafs, who are on a two-game win streak and looking for a big performance from their usual crowd of stars. Detroit has to do something different coming out of the gates in tomorrow afternoon’s game.

Detroit Red Wings clashing with a “frenemy” for game no.2 overseas.

The Maple Leafs, led by Auston Matthews and company, are trying to keep fighting in the Atlantic Division. On the other hand, Detroit is teetering on the edge of a major collapse. Already, they have had some struggles that could lead to a serious turnaround from their hot start.

The good news is that the Detroit Red Wings are shuffling the deck between the pipes. After Ville Husso stayed in Detroit to be with family after the birth of his daughter, the Red Wings are rolling with James Reimer and Alex Lyon. Lyon has yet to touch the ice for game action, but that will change vs. Toronto.

It will be a breath of fresh air for Detroit to have Lyon between the pipes. Even if things go poorly, at least they gave him a chance, finally. But Lyon has a good chance ahead of himself to try and garner some more looks in the coming weeks.

But, once again, it will hinge on how things start out of the gates. Toronto can score; that’s been established. Detroit will have to keep them off the board and try to muster up some offense early on to get ahead, something they have not been able to do.

That being said, let’s talk about the game info.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game info, odds, and prediction.

Game: Detroit Red Wings (8-5-3) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (8-5-2)

When: Friday, November 17th

Time: 2:00 PM ET

Where: Ericsson Globe

Where to Watch: Fubo/Sling

Odds: According to DraftKings, the Toronto Maple Leafs are the favorite on the Moneyline with a -170 payout. The Detroit Red Wings have a +142 payout on the Moneyline. Detroit is +1.5 on the Puck Line with a -175 payout. Toronto is -1.5 on the Puck Line with a +145 payout. The over/under is set at 6.5. The over has a -125 payout, and the under has a +1-5 payout.

Prediction: It’s hard to jump on anything with Lyon in between the pipes. No shade to him because he has not played, but his play could be a real wildcard in this game. But, with Detroit’s inability to muster up offense early on in games and start fast, it’s going to be a tough game to want to back the Red Wings. Considering Toronto has a knack for scoring, and it’s hard to deter scorers like Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, it could get ugly. William Nylander is playing in front of his family, which might give him a “home-ice advantage” as well.

I have some faith in Lyon, but with the defense’s recent performance, they may leave him out to dry. That could lead to some high-danger chances that Toronto will not swing-and-miss on. For bettors, let’s cook up a little “Global Series” action. Consider a little parlay of William Nylander and Lucas Raymond to score a goal, betting on the Swedes, who will most likely bury one.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
