Preview: Red Wings hope to get back to winning ways against Islanders

The Detroit Red Wings will host the New York Islanders who are on a one game winning streak after defeating New Jersey 4-2 on Saturday.  Detroit won the first meeting between the two teams 4-3 on December 4 in Elmont, NY.

Game time tonight is 7:30 PM ET at LCA in Detroit, MI.

Contract Extension

Late last night, the Red Wings announced that Robby Fabbri has signed a three-year contract extension.  In 28 games this season, Fabbri has scored eight goals and 14 points.  During parts of three seasons with the Red Wings, Fabbri has played 110 games and has scored 32 goals and 63 points.  Fabbri will be 29 when this contrat ends, fitting the timeline of the re-building Detroit hockey club.

  • The Red Wings special teams are currently ranked 26th in the NHL, PP 16.2%, PK 76.5%
  • Lucas Raymond continues to lead the Red Wings in scoring with 24 points in 28 games
  • Dylan Larkin and Raymond lead Detroit with 10 goals
  • Moritz Seider leads all Red Wings defensemen in scoring with 19 points in 28 games
  • Seider also leads Detroit with 16 assists
  • Tyler Bertuzzi continues to lead the Red Wings with a +9 rating
  • Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to start and has an 8-6-3 record, 2.81 GAA, and .915 SV% in 19 games
  • Tyler Bertuzzi will be a welcome return to the lineup after missing five games while being on COVID-19 protocol.  The Red Wings have lost three games in a row and sure didn’t look like the same team before Bertuzzi contracted the virus.
