Detroit Red Wings: Robby Fabbri looking to contribute in ’23-24

Octopus Thrower

The Detroit Red Wings are starting to think about the upcoming season as the 2023-24 campaign begins to creep closer and closer out there on the horizon. But one of the things that the Red Wings have to have on their mind is figuring out where the team will get production from.

While the Detroit Red Wings did pick up a considerable amount of firepower this off-season in the form of Alex DeBrincat, Daniel Sprong, and a few others, there are still roles to be carved out. One of the players who will look to settle into a role for the Red Wings in 2023-24 is Robby Fabbri.

While Fabbri has been with the Red Wings for parts of the last four seasons now, he has struggled to be able to maintain a clean bill of health. At times things have been bleak amid COVID-19 health issues, knee injuries, and just odds and ends in between.

Fabbri had to undergo another knee surgery this spring, which was beyond worrisome for the 27-year-old winger, but he was given a clean bill of health to return to training camp. His next goal should be to maintain that and stay healthy once again.

Detroit Red Wings’ Robby Fabbri is looking to be a consistent contributor.

For the Red Wings, there has to be hope for Fabbri. When he’s healthy and in the Red Wings lineup, things have gone well for him. He has found ways to score and be someone who can contribute offensively and get things done as a winger and even up the middle if needed.

Fabbri is coming off the 2022-23 season, where he played in just 28 games, scoring seven goals and nine assists for 16 total points. But, things were so abbreviated for him as he struggled to stay healthy and remain on the ice as an active player.

The Red Wings have to be hoping that the 2023-24 season will be different. After all, Steve Yzerman has rewarded Fabbri with new contracts and kept him around, so there’s no reason to think he’s not part of the team Yzerman has been building.

But, with the inability to stay healthy, there’s undoubtedly some concern. But given he has been given the all-clear and training camp is in the mix, the Red Wings have to be hoping that this is the year he can stay healthy and be a contributing force consistently.

Fabbri has shown he can contribute to this team in the past; the thing for him now is going to be consistency and maintaining health.
